(untitled 247)

Genuine. wanted to shake things up last night, so we went out to see a movie. Since getting married, we've tended to be the type of people that stay in on Friday nights and go to bed around 10.30. (I'm tired, alright?) I haven't heard of any movies that I've really wanted to see lately - I've insisted for some time that the only movie I plan on seeing this summer is Pixar's WALL-E - but she sat me down and showed me a trailer for Baby Mama. The title put me on guard, but after watching a preview, I thought it would be worth a watch. After all, we had a $30 gift certificate for movie tickets left over from our wedding. So off to the theaters we went.

I have to say, it far exceeded my expectations.

First of all, it's hard to go wrong with Tina Fey. She's not only easily the funniest female in show business right now, but also an extremely clever and witty writer. I thought she did a great job. She does a really good job when paired with Amy Poehler (think Weekend Update), which only made things better. And then Steve Martin made an appearance as a hippie CEO, which was hysterical. ("You've done a good job. I will now reward you with five minutes of unbroken eye contact." I love Steve Martin.) And then, best of all, John Hodgman made a cameo as an OB/GYN that was brilliant, if only 30 seconds long.

It's not the movie of the year, certainly, but it was definitely a good choice for an evening. If you're looking for something to do one of these days, I'd recommend giving it a look. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Agreed when it comes to Tina Fey, I hadn't really thought about seeing this one, but now I will.

Just as you say, the movie exceeded our expectations and we found ourselves having a very very good time. Amy Poehler was, I thought, kind of a genius. (Did you see the Slate.com column on her that described her comedic quality as "feral"? check it out.) Steve Martin was so dang funny--that thing with the shell? hilarious. Everyone: see this movie! Funny! and funny movies are a precious gift straight from the Lord above.

I hadn't considered it either. Consider your recommendation lodged in the ol' brain.
Also, I think you admire Tina Fey because she wears Genuine.'s glasses. 'Fess up.

I have already seen it twice and forced many friends to go. When Amy throws that trashcan at Scott's car setting off the alarm "I was gonna say leave a funny note!" and the unforgettable response of "woo woo" in Birthing class when asked who was going to pollute their bodies with western medicine for their selfish comfort.

One friend of mine was disturbed by the high number of phallic references. So just warning for those sensitive to such things. Try not to invite those types of friends.

WALL-E looks amazing, yes, but when you say that's the only movie you plan on seeing this summer, do you really mean WALL-E and The Dark Knight?

I'm with you on Tina Fey, too. At least one of the funniest women, I'd say. 30 Rock, once I got into it, is absolutely hilarious.
