(untitled 227)

At the behest of Uffish Thought, I created a Facebook profile under a fake name so I could see what it was like. (The name was "Lordship Counties," being the first two words that came into my head.) I poked around and uploaded some honeymoon pictures, but wasn't quite sure if I wanted to stay or not. It turned out that a few people had gotten word that I'd joined, though, and enough people had added me as a friend that I decided to stick around. I even changed my name back.

And so now here I am. And it turns out that I was probably right to stay away for so long. It doesn't interest me at all. I plan on leaving it up as an online photo album (I've uploaded pictures of the wedding, the honeymoon, and the reception), but I doubt I'll ever do anything more with it. I had a whole diatribe prepared of things that I don't like about it and find to be vapid and pointless, but ranting about it just after I joined it feels a bit childish to me. I won't make fun of it.

Maybe it's just me. It just doesn't seem interesting at all. Then again, I've never seen the point of text messaging, either. Maybe there's some part of the collective unconscious mind that I haven't tapped into yet.

From what I've found it's awesome for me when I want to keep up with most people's lives without actually trying. It's like all the acquaintances you had in high school only you don't high five them, you just see them on some online what not. Also I hear it's awesome when you move away from friends. But if you're good enough at keeping in touch with friends without it, that's fine. Oh, and it's really good for creating contacts which is very important in Media type businesses. I've been able to do better in different organizations I've been a part of because I became facebook friends with some members.

i did the same thing with myspace a few years ago. created a profile at the insistence of friends. kept it for a few months. logged in maybe thrice. deleted it. at least i tried, right?

Yeah, I don't feel the whole Facebook thing, either. I do text when it's more convenient than calling people, but I don't really like having protracted texting conversations.

I don't love Facebook, but I do like how some people find me that way, so I don't mind having it.

But I love texting!

Also, am currently listening to your recommended Beirut. Pretty good, you're right. However, the new Cat Power (Jukebox) is unbelievably good, I feel. And what do you think about Devandra Banheart? Downloaded that recently as well, think it's pretty remarkable.

don't diss it because it's not your exact style. You don't have to personally love it but it is a great way for people who care about you to keep in touch. Enjoy it for what it is and what you can get out of it. And ignore 85% of the newfangled crap on the site.

I think it has more appeal to the unmarried (and thus shallower lifestyled) people. To facebook users, don't be offended please, I count myself in that category.

I like to see peoples pictures and know what is going on with them. It is great to keep up with casual friends as well as good friends. I do appreciate all the pictures you put up..yeah...I jut wish my account wasn't freaking out and not letting me comment on anything.

You just really haven't connected to the Weltgeist yet. Using YouTube to look up episodes of Rocko's Modern Life...pshaw.
